In January 2011 a group of academics established the Australian Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Institute Ltd. (ARASMI) as a non for profit public company limited by guarantee, with the objectives to:
- Promote, develop and conduct research in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of respiratory and sleep disorders
- Encourage and promote research in the detection, prevention and treatment of respiratory infections and public health issues
- Educate and extend knowledge in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of respiratory and sleep disorders and to make available education to supplement and further those opportunities made available by other established education institutions
- Encourage best practice in the delivery of health care related to respiratory and sleep disorders
- Undertake targeted education and service delivery programs in relation to respiratory and sleep health issues
- Raise and administer funds for community awareness programs in relation to respiratory and sleep health issues
- Collaborate with professional organizations involved in respiratory and sleep health to promote better respiratory and sleep behaviors and health
- Conduct, co-ordinate and support projects for the advancement of the above objects
- Raise and administer funds for the advancement of the above objects
